How we work for you

We deliver high-quality, cost-effective IT and support.

It's been the foundation of our business for 20 years. In the connected fields of communications and information technology, we succeed by helping your business prosper.

Good client relations are crucial to us. We've built our reputation on them and continue to do so. We've listened to what people want from an IT services company, and we have a range of services and products built around those needs. They're probably your company's needs too.

We stay up-to-date. We track the latest develop-ments, actively looking for things that may deliver real business benefits, and include them in the advice which we offer. We stay on top of IT, so you don't have to.

Our experts are technical. Um, very technical. But everyone here at Teknocraft knows how to translate expertise into business success. Our expertise is valuable because it's understandable!

Customer care is at the top of our priorities list. It's worked for us in the past: our very first clients are still with us after 20 years.

You might think that's only because nobody's discovered the bodies yet, but seriously: in that time our clients have grown enormously, and so have we. We still continue to give them the same quality of service we always have: our very best.

We want to do this for you too.

About our company and business philosophy

About Us

We are a small, specialist IT company, based in Bristol since 1990. We provide support, systems design, programming and consultancy for businessses who depend on IT for success.

We realised back in the mid 1980s that computing would become hugely important for running any size of business. Since then our aim has always been to provide exactly the kind of expertise and help our customers tell us they need. Four things sum this up:

  • Information and help in plain English
  • Trustworthy advice and guidance
  • Effective support
  • Overall, first-class service

Total Cost of Ownership

We specialise in assessing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of computer systems. A realistic TCO appraisal is crucial to efficient use of IT in business. To understand TCO analysis better and how it can help you, click a heading below...

Most people involved in running and managing a small to medium sized company have an idea of how much computer equipment costs to buy, but few people know the costs or the benefits relating to efficiency and usage. Fig 1. below is one example of how you can break the "not-measurable" down into things you can measure. We can help you do this, or, for some of the categories, do it for you.

cost-effectiveness charts

Computer systems which don't deliver their best, or awkward software, can contribute to hidden running costs. It's important to know what to expect from a system and make sure you get it!

Expert tuning is often a productive activity that's far more cost-effective than replacement. At Teknocraft we know that even small adjustments can bring big improvements, as can modifications and additions. Don't replace it, make it work properly! This sort of change often brings benefits that far outweigh the costs.

When you make use of our services you will benefit from a great deal of expertise in assessing what makes up a valuable IT resource, whether it be 2 PCs or 200, and how best that money can be spent to save in the short term and what plans can be made to continue and enhance the benefits into the medium to long term.

In order to work out the total cost of ownership of a computer system, you will need to include much more than just the initial hardware purchase...

  • Software license purchase costs
  • Hardware and software implementation / deployment costs
  • Warranties and maintenance costs
  • Software license tracking costs
  • Operations infrastructure costs
  • Infrastructure (floor space) costs
  • Cost for electricity and cooling
  • Network hardware and software costs
  • Server hardware and software costs
  • Testing costs
  • Cost to build-in scalability
  • IT personnel costs
  • "C-level" management time costs
  • Backup and recovery process costs
  • Costs associated with failure or outage
  • Diminished performance incidents (i.e. users having to wait)
  • Costs of security breaches (in loss of reputation and recovery costs)
  • Technology training costs of users and IT staff.
  • Audit costs
  • Insurance costs
  • Replacement costs
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits (Bourbon creams, mostly)
  • Migration costs
  • Decommissioning costs

The average cost of ownership of a desktop computer system in an IT-efficient, US organisation is around $41001 per year on an ongoing basis. UK costs are similar.

Compare this to an initial cost of $1000 or less (at bulk-purchase rates). The hardware represents such a small proportion of the costs that, in large, technology-driven US companies, PCs are often written off after one year and not depreciated further.

TCO—ongoing cost in particular—is so important that many large companies employ expensive consultants to manage and control it specifically. Teknocraft offers this expertise to you as an included part of our overall service.

12007 calculations: see this Microsoft white paper. Costs averaged between XP and Vista.

  1. Desktop PCs and laptops often lose up to 50% of their performance over time, because of poor software maintenance and bad usage habits. It's unproductive, wasteful and frustrating for users.
  2. Old systems are often electrically inefficient (as well as slow and noisy), increasing energy bills.
  3. Staff frustration with their computers contributes directly to loss of productivity.
It's a vicious circle that affects mental and physical well-being.
  4. PC crashes DO mean lost work. Lack of a proven backup-recovery system WILL waste time and money.
  5. Losing Internet access (because of a cheap service provider) can stop a busy office dead in its tracks.
There's often no compensation, and recovering from the event usually takes longer than expected.
  6. If emails are not delivered promptly or incorrectly classified as spam, deadlines get missed.
Client relationships and income suffer. Sometimes it's terminal.
  7. Inadequate firewalls mean company time is used for personal pursuits on the Internet, rather than work.
